ONTONAGON, Mich. (WLUC) – Descendants of Thomas Stripe, one of Ontonagon’s earliest settlers, still have strong roots in the community.

“My son Tommy shot four ducks in one shot,” said Helen Stripe Murray, great-granddaughter.

These words written in an 1877 log kept by Thomas Stripe, the first keeper of the Ontonagon Harbor Lighthouse constructed in 1866.
