A 5-pound Asian carp was pulled out of the Rock Run Rookery on Monday, but the invasive species increasingly is harder to find in this area, state officials said at a demonstration event.

The forest preserve lake is considered part of the Dresden Pool, a section of the Des Plaines River called “the leading edge” in the fight against Asian carp.

“Our job is to keep them from advancing. I think we’re turning the dial back,” said Kevin Irons, aquatic nuisance species manager for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
