New grant funding of $200,000 administered by New York Sea Grant will include a focus on recreational and tourism activities, organizers said.

“We have a diversity of water resources and recreational resources. There’s no cookie cutter,” said David White, recreational specialist for New York Sea Grant. “What may be a new opportunity on the St. Lawrence River may be different on the eastern Lake Ontario basin. It’s for these local communities to think of what needs have not been met.”

The New York Great Lakes Basin Small Grants Program, which will enter its fifth year, has never before focused on recreation and tourism projects. This year’s program will also emphasize coastal resiliency efforts.
