In a press release from Ottawa earlier in the month, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Catherine McKenna made the announcement that funding would go towards the Great Lakes Protection Initiative.

Investing $44.84M into the initiative, the Government of Canada is providing funding that is part of the $70.5M of new funding, which was earmarked in the 2017 budget to protect freshwater.

The freshwater systems, or better yet, the Great Lakes, provide drinking water for one out of four Canadians and one out of ten Americans.
